In this 1935 home, I led a comprehensive renovation project, tailored for a client who would both reside in the home and rent it during her absences.
Our dual focus: personal comfort for the client’s residence and practicality for rentals. The original layout posed challenges: a windowless room, a cramped living area devoid of dining space, and inadequate storage.
The new design transformed the windowless room into a bathroom and a small walk-in closet within the main bedroom. By relocating the kitchen to the former bathroom area, we expanded the living room, now accommodating a dining section.
Preserving the home’s original charm, we retained art deco ceilings, hardwood floors, high skirting, doors, shutters, and stone accents near the kitchen entrances. A custom floor-to-ceiling bookshelf served dual purposes: storage and a display for personal items.
The glass-top dining table, designed specifically for this project, maximized guest capacity without overwhelming the visual space. In one bedroom, a custom designed headboard allowed comfortable placement of a couple’s bed beneath the window, while providing extra storage.
Durable furniture pieces were carefully chosen, complemented by personal touches through decor and art.
The client’s travel mementos and existing artwork found their place alongside locally crafted items chosen carefully to complement and enhance the space’s identity.
