Mid-Century Character: A Personalized 1960s Transformation

Recently concluded, this remodeling project approached a 1960s apartment from a purely aesthetic and functional standpoint. Unlike our structural overhauls, the goal here wasn’t to change the layout, but rather to inject character, personality, and warmth into a space that originally lacked architectural interest and felt entirely devoid of soul.

We tailored every corner of the home to adapt seamlessly to the owner’s specific needs. One of the most significant transformations took place on the ground: we replaced the existing grey, cold flooring with a rich, warm oak wood floor, instantly shifting the entire energy of the apartment and laying a cozy foundation for the rest of the design.

We also faced the challenge of a completely windowless interior room with no structural way to introduce natural light. To solve this, we implemented a specialized lighting solution that beautifully mimics daylight, turning a once-uninviting space into a highly functional home office and guest room, complete with a clever retractable bed.

The final layer of the project was an exercise in curated storytelling. To build the apartment’s new personality, we blended the owner’s existing collection of antique furniture with carefully selected new pieces. This thoughtful mix of eras creates a layered, sophisticated home that feels both deeply personal and full of texture and warmth.
