Mid-Century Warmth: A 1970s Revival in Alcântara

Situated in Alcântara, Lisbon, this 65-square-meter apartment from the 1970s was an exercise in pure interior design rather than structural renovation.

Originally presented as a blank canvas of plain white walls and cold grey flooring, the space lacked architectural character. Our goal was to evoke the era’s expressive spirit, creating a contemporary home infused with retro nostalgia.

The transformation started from the ground up: replacing the sterile floor with rich wood instantly shifted the apartment’s energy. We echoed this warmth across custom furniture accents and introduced a tailored partition screen in wood and fluted glass at the entrance, establishing subtle privacy and period-specific texture the moment you step inside.

The design was anchored by the owner’s extensive collection of ceramics, art objects, and personal treasures. Curated alongside vibrant greenery, these pieces give the space an authentic, lived-in depth rather than a showroom feel.

Supported by a layered, warm lighting scheme that softens every angle, the result is an intimate, character-rich sanctuary celebrating personal history and modern comfort.
